Midnight in Paris Woody Allen's flight of fancy takes Owen Wilson to the City of Light, where the present-day Hollywood screenwriter somehow meets up with a Jazz Age muse (Marion Cotillard) and a few of the great artists (Picasso, Dali) and expat scribes (Hemingway, Fitzgerald) of another, better time. PG-13

The Tree of Life Immensely ambitious and awesomely beautiful, Terrence Malick's meditation on nature and grace is set in 1950s Texas - when it's not roving back to Jurassic jungles, or zooming through the cosmos. Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain are the human stars. It's kind of nutty, but Malick is working on a whole other level of filmmaking - and maybe a whole other level of existence. PG-13
