You, too, can see U2 here tonight

U2 may be one of the world's most beloved bands, but demand has not gone through the roof for tonight's South Philadelphia concert.

U2 may be one of the world's most beloved bands, but demand has not gone through the roof for tonight's South Philadelphia concert.

Even as die-hard fans began gathering at Lincoln Financial Field this morning - some with general admission tickets hoping to be randomly picked to be near the stage - affordable tickets could still be had, for several reasons.

Not only are the Irish rockers filling a huge venue, but the 7 p.m. show is a makeup date from a year ago, when leader singer Bono's bad back forced some cancellations.

The rescheduling helped keep prices down - and so have U2's fan-friendly practices.

"That's the great thing about U2," said Jeremi Conaway, vice president of Wanamaker Tickets in Center City. "They don't completely overprice the tickets. They give everybody a chance to go to the show.

He said he's heard such great things about the show - with its giant stage - that he's going himself.

"I'm taking my wife, Greta, and she's 7-1/2 months pregnant," he said.

Unsold seats. Although some reports say the concert's sold out, this morning Ticketmaster did still have some lower-level seats at $268.75 apiece, plus fees and taxes. The cheap seats, though, were gone.

Cheaper seats. Prices on the secondary market aren't crazy at all, with hundreds of seats available for $100 or less - even for as little as $44 - through the likes of StubHub. Pricier seats also are available.

StubHub's "instant download" option - printing electronic copies - means there's no pickup problems, and the transactions have a guarantee.

Ticket agencies are another option. Wanamaker Tickets at 16th and Market (215-568-2400), for example, has seats for $45 to $600, Conaway said.

Tickets can be delivered or picked up, either at the 16th and Market Street office or the stadium's will call window, he said.

Freebies! Every hour today WYSP (94 FM) is giving away tickets. "Listen for our ticket booth to start printing your tickets. When you hear it, text the U2 to 84828. The 94th texter will pick up the U2 tickets," according to the station's website.
