Let a reporter pick the tunes? Why not?

Josh Landow offered me the chance to curate an hour of Philly tunes for the Y-Not Philly show, airing every Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 10 p.m., with a repeat on Saturday at 8 p.m. Here's what I played:

Josh Landow offered me the chance to curate an hour of Philly tunes for the Y-Not Philly show, airing every Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 10 p.m., with a repeat on Saturday at 8 p.m. Here's what I played:

1. SLUTEVER, "No Offense" (from "Sorry I'm Not Sorry"): Girl-flavored punk rock at its best.

2. TJ KONG AND THE ATOMIC BOMB, "Post-Apocalypse Blues" (from "Idiots"): Hands down, my favorite local band. Rough country music with a Philly sneer.

3. MANY ARMS, "Presentation" (from "Missing Time"): Controlled noise. Good for those who love a good jazz freakout.

4. U.S. GIRLS, "Prove it All Night" (from "Introducing"): Who knew you could change the Springsteen anthem so much and still make it sound this good?

5. BLACK LANDLORD, "Watch Out" (from "What You Mean to We"): Try not to dance when Black Landlord comes on. Just try.

6. READING RAINBOW, "Always on My Mind" (from "Prism Eyes"): RR makes quite a ruckus for a guitar-and-drum twosome. Good.

7. CREEPOID, "Wishing Well" (from "Horse Heaven"): A haunting, fuzzy entry that's surprisingly catchy.

8. THE SEA AROUND US, "Walls" (From "The Sea Around Us"): If the Beach Boys were around today, they'd have harmonies like this.

9. THE EXTRAORDINAIRES, "Eloise the Eloquent" (from "Electric and Benevolent"): Power pop to the max.

10. SUMMER FICTION, "Chandeliers" (from "Summer Fiction"): If it were possible for a song to sound incandescent, that's what "Chandeliers" would sound like. Perfect music for springtime.

11. DANGEROUS PONIES, "You Are Dangerous" (from "Dangerous Ponies"): So bouncy and smile-inducing.

12. THE SPINNING LEAVES, "Lonely Firefly" (from "Love"): A rollicker from the girl-boy duo.
