Sideshow: Baldwin for mayor? Maybe

Alec Baldwin isn't running for mayor of New York City, but he might, which is cool and deserves a big headline. The 30 Rock star tells the New York Times he's not a fan of Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg. That billionaire guy, he says, isn't hip to the city's needs.

star tells the New York Times he's not a fan of Mayor

Michael R. Bloomberg

. That billionaire guy, he says, isn't hip to the city's needs.

Sure, Alec's also rich, but he says he's down with the peeps, having moved to the Upper West Side.

"It is more real" there, he says. "There's old people, it's ethnic, and it's economically mixed. It's not a little . . . privileged pocket of the city." Alec, 53, says he'll skip the 2013 elections so he can school himself: He plans to earn a master's degree in political science "to help me better understand . . . the fiscal imperatives of that job."

Isn't he worried that his past as a Hollywood sex hunk will be raked up by his enemies? "What I do for a living has provided people with [a] . . . bottomless container of video clips of me doing the most asinine things," he admits. But he insists he can stand the heat.

One Lopez rises on TV . . .

Happy days!

Jennifer Lopez

isn't abandoning

American Idol

, y'all!

Sure, she (allegedly) carried on a who's-the-divaest-of-them-all feud with Idol host Ryan Seacrest, but J-Lo shall return as a judge next season, Idol exec producer Nigel Lythgoe announced Wednesday.

"I am delighted to say that all three judges, along with the brilliant host of American Idol, are back for the next season," Lythgoe said on Seacrest's radio show.

J-Lo, 42, who has 3-year-old twins Max and Emme with estranged hub Marc Anthony, will rejoin Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson at the judges' table. She'll have a big smile: TheWrap.com reports she'll make $20 mil this year, up from a paltry $12 mil.

. . . as another TV Lopez falls

In shocking (though, when you think about it, not really) news, TBS on Wednesday said it was canceling comic

George Lopez

' beloved, if ratings-challenged, late-night talk show,

Lopez Tonight

.

"TBS has reached the difficult decision not to order a third season," a statement reads. "TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work."

The show has had a 40 percent decline in ratings in its second season.

Justin a BieBrat? Heavens!

Justin Bieber

, 17, has responded with bemusement to a FoxNews.com report that paints the Canadian teen as the biggest brat this side of

Dennis the Menace

.

Fox claimed Justin, who may or may not be dating older lady Selena Gomez, 19, acted like a jerk on a flight from L.A. to Asia.

Anonymous Source says Justin "gave the staff a really hard time the whole flight, nobody could believe it." So bad was the "Somebody to Love," claims the source, he even refused to give the flight captain an autograph! The nerve!

Justin: Belieb me, I'm no brat!

Justin claims the flight story is nonsense.

"I have no clue. I have never heard that rumor," Bieber tells TMZ, "ever!" Poor Justin! "I don't think you should believe everything you hear. People make up stuff all the time," he adds.

Jennifer, Justin . . . & baby?

They only met like two minutes ago, but

Jennifer Aniston

and

Justin Theroux

, who are going steady, are eager to make a baby.

So claims Us Weekly, which says the couple are trying to make the magic happen this week during a retreat at "a $7,000-a-day cliffside compound in Kauai, Hawaii." (So what does it for Jen? Marvin Gaye soul? Swirly, wifty New Age wind from Yanni?) It's the standard report: Anonymous Source says the couple "have talked at length about getting married and starting a family. [Jen] is anxious for the next phase of her life and feels like this is the time." Guess Jen, who has no kids, doesn't want to wait for Brad Pitt thief Angelina Jolie, who has six, to steal Justin as well.

Davis: We'll adopt domestically

Unlike some people we won't name (ahem,

Brangelina

) who go abroad to save orphans,

The Help

star

Viola Davis

and hubby

Julius Tennon

tell E! News they are adopting an American baby.

"We are about to adopt a baby," says Davis, who turns 46 on Thursday. It'll be her first child. Tennon already has two children, ages 35 and 33.

Lindsay Lohan, a casualty of celebrity

Glee

's

Dianna Agron

doesn't talk about her private life. Ever. She's afraid she'll turn into that cautionary tale,

Lindsay Lohan

, whose private affairs have crushed her career. "It's really sad looking at people like Lindsay Lohan," Agron tells Cosmopolitan. "She's an amazing actress, but you see what happens when people know too much about your personal life. They start not being able to look at you the same way professionally. I don't want that to happen to me."

Sarah Palin has granddaughter

Former vice presidential candidate, future emperor of America, and current media mogul

Sarah Palin

is a grandmother again. Her eldest son,

Track Palin

, 22, and

Britta Hanson

, 21, who wed in May, welcomed a girl,

Kyla Grace Palin

, over the weekend.

Higdon will deliver 'Cold Mountain'

Long discussed, long-ago announced, and ultimately left for dead,

Jennifer Higdon

's proposed operatic adaptation of

Cold Mountain

has new life in a joint commission from the Santa Fe Opera and the Opera Company of Philadelphia. But we're going to have to wait until 2015 for the world premiere in Santa Fe and 2016 for the East Coast premiere in Philadelphia.

Though the commission of a Higdon opera was announced by the San Francisco Opera in 2009, Higdon withdrew earlier this year because (she said) of creative differences, though a company spokesman said the differences were financial.

In any case, the composition process with librettist Gene Scheer is at the beginning stages. Santa Fe Opera has premiered numerous new works, but the Philadelphia collaboration is the first with another company and will also include the Theodore Morrison opera Oscar, about Oscar Wilde, which premieres in 2013 in Santa Fe and 2015 in Philadelphia.

Beauty, a full-time job

Revlon has signed

Emma Stone

and

Olivia Wilde

as its latest global ambassadors (fancy for hawkers). "Revlon recognizes that every woman is multifaceted and magnificent in their own way and the expression of individuality is as important to Revlon as it is to me," Stone said in a statement. Lofty words for a lofty position.
