Beard Team USA is the organizer of the National Beard and Moustache Championship, coming tomorrow to Lancaster. Prizes totaling $5,000 will be awarded in such categories as full beard and groomed beard, partial beard, mustache and freestyle.

It's like IFC's "Whisker Wars" come to life! In fact, Jack Passion, star of the reality TV show, will be master of ceremonies. Reigning freestyle world champ Willi Chevalier, of Germany, will be a judge. (You may not know his name, but you've surely seen pictures of him and his curlicue white masterpiece.)

Other judges include Miss Pennsylvania, Juliann Sheldon; former Pittsburgh Steeler Justin Hartwig; and a to-be-named Eagle.

The event is part of an Oktoberfest celebrattion that includes brews, food and music, though diehard hirsuters can attend just the championship. Things get started around noon with a parade from the Lancaster Marriott to Clipper Magazine Stadium, where all events will be held.

There are more than 50 local chapters in the U.S. (including Philly), but it's no accident that they've chosen Lancaster for the national tourney this year. The organization's website says that it's "thrilled to be holding the championships in Amish Country, where the local Amish farmers have been growing beards for America for over 200 years."
