On what would have been John Lennon's 71st birthday (see below), Sir Paul McCartney, 69, wed skweezie Nancy Shevell, 51, Sunday, at a civil ceremony in Marylebone, central London. His third; her second. They'll throw a party Stateside later. Mac's daughter Beatrice was flower girl and his bro Mike was best male. Shevell wore a Stella McCartney dress, and Paul wore a blue suit. He gave her a 5-carat Neil Lane diamond in a platinum ring. Ringo Starr was there, with wife Barbara Bach, George Harrison's widow Olivia, Shevell's son Arlen, and her cousin, Barbara Walters. Wait . . . now Baba Wawa is sort of related to Paul? . . . shut up!
'Real Steel' thrashes all contenders
Real Steel, a movie all about fake boxing robots and Hugh Jackman, pummeled the movie world over the weekend, according to studio estimates. It took $27.3 million out of viewers' pockets, KO'ing the competition. No. 2 wasn't even close: George Clooney's smart, all-star politi-flick Ides of March, with only $10.4 mils. The rest of the top 10: (3) Dolphin Tale ($9.16 mils); (4) Moneyball ($7.5 mils); (5) 50/50 ($5.5 mils); (6) Courage ($4.6 mils; (7) The Lion King in 3D ($4.55 mils); (8) Dream House ($4.5 mils); (9) What's Your Number? ($3.05 mils); and (10) Abduction ($2.9 mils). So far it's a bad box-office autumn.
Old City Bonaduce pad for $ale
It ain't often we get to reference Realtor.com, but today's the day! Danny Bonaduce, whose radio show ended in late August with the demise of WYSP, has put his Old City loft on the market. A sweet little dustup Sunday on Twitter. It was the birthday of Canadian babyface Chaz Somers. Thousands of fans pushed to make it a Twitter trending topic. But . . . pushback! Folks got mad John Lennon's birthday wasn't trending, and soon . . . it was! All this largely from people in their 20s. Meantime, in Viðey, Reykjavík, Iceland, Yoko Ono lit the Imagine Peace Tower, a rock-and-light sculpture, in honor of Lennon, live via EarthCam feed on the Web. She and the Plastic Ono Band will rock out at the Iceland Airwaves Festival, as will Iceland's own Björk.
All's not ducky in Simpsonland
Yes, Fox just renewed The Simpsons for two more seasons, the 24th and 25th. Homer and Marge are safe! BUT . . . Fox, seeking a 45 percent budget cut, got producers and the six great voice-over stars (Harry Shearer, Dan Castellaneta, Hank Azaria, Julie Kavner, Yeardley Smith, and Nancy Cartwright) to take a pay cut. The producers are fine: They get back-end residuals! Not so the voice stars. Each makes $400K per episode. Shearer says it ain't fair; he'd take a 70 percent cut if he could revenue-share. So far, Fox is standing firm. Will Harry walk? If he does, who'll be Mr. Burns?
