Hoots and Hellmouth.

When they play the Gild Hall in Arden, Del., on Saturday night, you'll notice that front man Sean Hoots' guitar is beaten and battered. That's because while the Philadelphia folk-roots-gospel foursome almost exclusively play acoustic instruments, they're not timid about attacking them with the ardor of an amped-up rock band. Last year, the harmonizing, hardworking quartet released an EP called Face First in the Dirt as well as its third album, Salt, which builds on the songwriting strengths of 2009's The Holy Open Secret while pulling from an ever broader and more varied musical bag of tricks.
