Felicitations were flowing like so much manna when Jimmy Fallon and Nancy Juvonen Fallon announced they had welcomed into their fold baby daughter Winnie Rose Fallon.

On Friday, Fallon dropped a little bombshell: Winnie was born to a surrogate.

"It wasn't really a secret, but my wife and I had been trying for a while to have a baby," Fallon told Today's Savannah Guthrie. "We've tried a bunch of different things, so we had a surrogate." Most of Fallon's colleagues didn't even know he was expecting a baby - his wife didn't look pregnant, after all.

"We said, 'We're not going to tell anybody,' " Fallon said. "It'd be just more fun if it's just private between me and my wife. And then we get to introduce her to everybody."

Conservatorship for Bynes

Ventura County (Calif.) Judge Glen Reiser on Friday granted Amanda Bynes' mother, Lynn Bynes, a temporary conservatorship over the troubled actress. It gives Lynn and hub Richard control over Amanda's personal matters, including legal, financial, and health care. Amanda, a former Nickelodeon star, remains in an L.A. psychiatric hospital. The psychiatric hold has been extended for 30 days.

Call that Swiss neutrality?

An official with Switzerland's tourism office on Friday issued an apology to Oprah Winfrey, and our fine nation, for an incident last month when the Big O was denied service at a Swiss store over her race. "We are very sorry for what happened to her," Daniela Baer tells the Associated Press in a statement.

Oprah told Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday the store manager bristled and turned the snooty way up when O asked to be shown a designer handbag priced at $38,000.

It "will cost too much. You will not be able to afford that," the shop assistant told her.
