Coast Day and Connections Festival

Summer might be unofficially over, but there's still celebrations on Penn's Landing. Boat buffs big and small oughta attend Coast Day tomorrow at the marina, where ferry, swan boat and kayak rides, plus fire- and tugboat tours, are free.

Inside the Independence Seaport Museum (adult admission $13.50) are more can't-miss exhibits: the world's largest Lego model ship collection, a regatta of remote-controlled model ships, knot-tying and navigation demos, and a lecture by LBI-connected authors of a book about the fire-doomed, Jersey-beached, circa 1930 SS Morro Castle.

Today and tomorrow, WHYY brings its free Connections Festival to the Great Plaza. Highlights in the two-day concert include performances by They Might Be Giants (tomorrow) and excellent doo-wop and old-school soul acts (Sunday).

Coast Day: Marina at Penn's Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Walnut Street, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. tomorrow, free, 215-413-8655, phillyseaport.org.

WHYY Connections Festival: Great Plaza, Penn's Landing, South Columbus Boulevard between Market and Walnut streets, noon-10 p.m. tomorrow, noon-4 p.m. Sunday, free (pre-registration recommended), 215-351-1200, whyy.org.
