Philadelphia Film Festival
It's all hands on deck in the projection room for the city's annual movie binge, which packs in 100 films over two weeks at the Prince, the Ritzes, Cinemark (Rave) and the Kimmel Center.
Saturday's sneak peek of "August: Osage County" - with Merryl Streep, Julia Roberts and Oscar buzz - is one hot ticket. The drama "12 Years a Slave," also Saturday, is another. A collection of animated shorts plays at Cinemark this Sunday then Bugs Bunny-hops across the river to play the Ritz East next Sunday.

Hot on the heels of Friday's Selena Gomez show, the tough 'n tender hip hop heartthrob plays the Wells Fargo Center Saturday. But wait, there's more: Pearl Jam is at the Center Monday and Tuesday. Flyers? What Flyers?

QUIRKY BUT WORTHY
Brotherly Love Cup
Like Big Five basketball for seriously bookish collegians, the fourth annual Philadelphia Brotherly Love Cup Quidditch Tournament sweeps into Chestnut Hill College. Nationally ranked Penn State (No. 25 among U.S. Quidditch teams) and Lafayette (No. 100) face off on the pitch at noon.
Meanwhile, the nearby Germantown Avenue shopping district goes all Diagon Alley on us, hosting a Harry Potter Festival with all manner of wizardly activities.

Hijinx with the Sphinx
Celebrating 100 years in Philadelphia - the blink of an eye to a 3,200-year-old - the Penn Museum's 15-ton sphinx is the man/lion of honor at a daylong fete that includes a serious archaeological lecture (3:30 p.m., $8 admission) and lots of Egypt-themed fun, including an Indiana Jones obstacle course, a demo on ancient hairstyles and of course a birthday cake.

Boo at the Zoo
The popular costume party returns for two weekends. Activities include a scavenger hunt, crafts and a costume parade.
