Celebrate African Penguin Awareness Weekend at Adventure Aquarium while helping to save the endangered creature from extinction.

Guests can get up close with an African penguin and learn more about them during live Q&A chats with biologists. The penguins will also make their art debut as they wobble with paint on their feet on canvas. Visitors can purchase penguin artwork and other crafts with all proceeds going to the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds in Cape Town, South Africa.

African Penguin Awareness Weekend, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Adventure Aquarium, 1 Riverside Dr., Camden. The aquarium is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Apple Festival at Peddler's Village

On Saturday and Sunday, enjoy entertainment and all things apple at the 2013 Apple Festival at Peddler's Village.

Performances include 17-year-old New Jersey country singer Madeline Smith, whose song "State of Mind" reached No. 16 on the British charts this fall, Laura Shay, Banjo Man, Tony Alosi, the Daisy Jug Band, and more. Stiltwalkers will stroll the village and the Give and Take Jugglers will amaze with their skill. Treats including country apple butter, cider, fritters, and apples dipped in caramel will be available for festivalgoers to savor.

Day of the Dead Celebration at Penn Museum

Celebrate the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at Penn Museum.

The day will feature storytelling, music and dance, papier maché artistry, sugar skull and mask making, cultural foods, and other activities. Visitors can shake hands with a 16-foot "La Catrina" puppet, and see the Day of the Dead altar honoring Mexican cartoonist and illustrator Jose Guadalupe Posada, who created La Catrina. Guests are encouraged to bring a photo or memento of their loved one to place at the communal altar.

Day of the Dead Celebration, 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, 3260 South St. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, except until 8 p.m. on first Wednesdays of each month.
