AC ushers in holiday season with shows, special events

There's plenty to do and hear in Atlantic City this holiday season.

IT'S BEGINNING to look - and, especially, sound - a lot like Christmas in Atlantic City, with various venues planning seasonal musical productions over the next five weeks.

Only one gaming hall, Tropicana Atlantic City, has an extended-run revue. Others are staging one- or two-nighters where big-name artists covering musical genres from country (Kenny Rogers) to jump-'n'-jive (Brian Setzer Orchestra) put their own spin on the season's sounds.

'Holiday Extravaganza': Seasonal revusical features a high-kicking ensemble and a sleigh-full of favorite holiday tunes, both pop and traditional.

Tropicana Atlantic City, Boardwalk at Brighton Avenue, through Dec. 20, show times vary, $20 and $10 (kids 16 and under), 800-736-1420, ticketmaster.com.

'Christmas Rocks': Atlantic City has become an annual stop for the swinging Yule-flavored program performed by guitar titan Brian Setzer and his brass-fueled big band.

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, One Borgata Way, 4 p.m., Dec. 14, $20, 866-900-4849, theborgata.com.

'Kenny G Holiday Show': Popular saxophonist puts a "smooth jazz" twist on selections from the holiday songbook.

It's a very Trop holiday

"Holiday Extravaganza" isn't Tropicana's only nod to the season. The gambling den is pretty much AC's Christmas Central.

The fine-dining section of The Quarter is again the site of the Trop's seasonal light-and-sound extravaganza, showing every half-hour on the half-hour, 2 p.m. to midnight daily.

On Dec. 14 comes another Tropicana tradition, the epic pub crawl known as "The Running of the Santas." Festivities begin at 7 p.m. and continue till 3 a.m. Register at runningofthesantas.com.
