Powerhouse singer Martha Redbone uses her Kentucky-via-Brooklyn background and American Indian heritage to fuse mountain string-band, soul-funk, blues, and the poetry of William Blake (it fits!) into a whole other brand of Americana. Blood of a poet

Osvaldo Golijov's 2005 opera Ainadamar ("Fountain of Tears"), with a libretto by David Henry Hwang, is a look at the life and death of Spanish poet Federico García Lorca, killed by the fascists in 1936. Our third president was well known for his intellect and erudition - and his love of fine food. For the program The President's Plate: Dining With Thomas Jefferson, cook Deborah Peterson will fire up the hearth to prepare Jefferson's own recipes for macaroni pudding and stewed rabbit for tasting along with punch and cakes, and there will be lessons in 19th-century table manners and churning butter.
