CBS3's Erika von Tiehl didn't even know she makes sounds so high-pitched. Then again, your body does crazy things when you're doused in ice water.

Von Tiehl was participating in the ice-bucket challenge to raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, sometimes called Lou Gehrig's disease. She's one of many media stars to take part in the social-media-fueled task.

It goes a little something like this: Dump a bucket of icy-cold water on your head, upload a video of the deed to YouTube, nominate three more people to dump ice water on themselves. If your nominees fail to do so within 24 hours, they must donate $100 to fight ALS.

"Everyone has a connection to a disease like breast cancer, but fewer have connections to ALS," von Tiehl said. "More people are hopefully looking up ALS. I bet it's opening up a lot of eyes."

Von Tiehl, who nominated meteorologist Katie Fehlinger, KYW NewsRadio's Jim Melwert and CBS Miami meteorologist Craig Setzer (and prompted the CBS3 morning team to donate $100, as well), is not the only local media personality getting in on the game. Comcast SportsNet's John Clark, Sarah Baicker (watch out, WIP's Rhea Hughes, she tagged you!) and Michael Barkann - who boldly participated live on "Philly Sports Talk" - were all doused for the cause.

NBC10's Jillian Mele nominated Preston and Steve's Steve Morrison, who nominated . . . uh-oh . . . me. Better get out my checkbook.

Emmy noms announced

The Mid-Atlantic Emmy nominations were announced yesterday. Locally, Comcast SportsNet came home with 25, CBS3 received 15, Fox 29 received 13, NBC10 received 12 and WHYY and the Eagles Television Network received nine each.

The winners will be announced Sept. 20 at the Hilton on City Avenue.

* In more local-news news, "Good Day Philadelphia" executive producer Maryann Vaughn, who has been at the station for more than 20 years, was promoted to assistant news director. Congrats, Maryann!

Fey-mous

There are still tickets available to see Upper Darby's Tina Fey raise funds for Upper Darby Summer Stage, which Fey lovingly discussed in her genius essay book, Bossypants. This Saturday's event features a screening of Fey's 2004 movie "Mean Girls," along with a Q&A with TV Guide's Damian Holbrook. Tickets, which range from $40 to $100, can be purchased at udpac.org.

Double-dose of reality

Two reality stars will be doing their things in A.C. on Saturday. Carla Facciolo of "Mob Wives" will be at the Cal-Ital Summer Winefest, pouring her wine at the Golden Nugget (Huron Avenue and Brigantine Boulevard). Embattled "Real Housewives of New Jersey" star Teresa Giudice will be at the Social at Revel (500 Boardwalk) on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for a meet and greet.

OUT AND ABOUT

* Boy band 5 Seconds of Summer (a/k/a 5SOS) went on a cheesesteak tour of sorts while in town for their two shows supporting One Direction at Lincoln Financial Field. On Tuesday, they hit Geno's Steaks (1219 S. 9th St.), and yesterday they went with Steve's Prince of Steaks (41 S. 16th St.).

Philadelphia magazine held its annual Best of Philly fete on Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park. Despite the rain, local notables - including "Project Runway" victor Dom Streater, Preston and Steve's Marisa Magnatta, the Sixers' Rebecca Timms, Alison Gambacorta (wife of Best of Philly winner and People Paper reporter David Gambacorta), Chatterblast's Matthew Ray and Philly mag lifestyle editor Emily Goulet (fresh off a European vacation, where she saw Pearl Jam in Amsterdam) - turned out in droves for the lovely event. The after-party at Volver (300 S. Broad St.) was so packed, Philly mag chairman David Lipson had to stand outside in the rain when he arrived because of the turnout.
