Hip hop makes a break for fun and positive change

Get ready to boogie this weekend when the Hip Hop Fundamentals dance troupe performs and instructs at the Please Touch Museum.

Learn about the history of hip-hop while dancing and grooving. You'll also learn about dance styles including break dancing.

The troupe uses hip-hop as a vehicle to teach academics and break dancing to inspire positive change in youth.

Hip Hop Fundamentals, noon and 2 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Please Touch Museum, Memorial Hall, Fairmount Park, 4231 Avenue of the Republic. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission: $17 age 1 and older; museum members and infants free. Santa's Arrival & Festival of Lights

Santa is coming to town Friday night for the Festival of Lights in front of the Delaware County Courthouse in Media.

Festivities begin at 5 p.m. The Phillie Phanatic will be on hand as well as characters from Star Wars, and the musical group Makin' Music will perform. Santa will make his grand arrival atop a Media fire company truck at 6 sharp. Count down as Santa flips the switch to light up the Christmas tree and State Street.

The festival is presented by the Media Business Authority and sponsored by Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, Riddle Hospital, and Republic Bank. Santa's Arrival & Festival of Lights, 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Delaware County Courthouse, 201 W. Front St., Media. Event is free. www.visitmediapa.com.

'Beauty and the Beast' at Arden Theatre

Enjoy a new spin on the fairy tale. Sisters Cassandra and Belle leave to start a new life in London after their father loses the family fortune. When Belle meets the Beast, she embarks on a remarkable adventure. The production is by Charles Way and directed by Whit McLaughlin. It runs through Feb. 8.

"Beauty and the Beast," at noon Friday, noon and 7 p.m. Saturday, and noon and 4 p.m. Sunday at Arden Theatre on the F. Otto Haus Stage, 40 N. Second St. The show is appropriate for ages 5 and older. Tickets are $16 to $32 and can be purchased online at www.ardentheatre.org.
