The Philadelphia Auto Show Black Tie Tailgate opened its doors Jan. 30 for guests to preview more than 700 vehicles at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The attendees took a break from the winter doldrums and came to get a glimpse of the latest vehicles, including luxury, classic, hybrid, exotic, and finely finished antique cars.

Tailgate partygoers and car lovers were treated to cocktails and a sampling of scrumptious cuisine at food stations designed by the Garces Group, followed by live entertainment from Jellyroll.

The gala, with more than 4,400 tickets sold, was fully loaded with all the bells and whistles, making it a night to shine, with $425,000 raised, thanks to the Auto Dealers Association and its CARing for Kids Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Philadelphia Auto Show. Proceeds from the event will support the Division of Neonatology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Notre Dame de Namur Fine Art Show

The annual art exhibition and sale by the parents' association of the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur opened Jan. 31 with a catered preview reception with the artists at the Academy Mansion on the Villanova school's campus. The exhibition features works by about 80 local, national, and international artists. Featured artist Brad Earl, also an architect, donated his Kimo Theater painting for the art show raffle. All proceeds from the weeklong art show benefit the school, which educates girls in grades 6 through 12 for responsible living in a global society.

PHS, JNF fete Jewish Arbor Day

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) joined with the Jewish National Fund (JNF) - which has planted more than 250 million trees and developed 250,000 acres of land in Israel over the last 100 years - to celebrate the holiday of Tu B'shavat, the Jewish Arbor Day or the New Year for Trees.

The holiday celebration Feb. 3 at PHS headquarters in Philadelphia included the traditional Seven Species tasting: wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates, washed down with Israeli wines, local beers, and the PHS Hard Cider. Speaking at the event were PHS president Drew Becher; Marina Furman, Eastern Pennsylvania regional director of the Jewish National Fund; and Wayne Kimmel, member of the board of trustees of Einstein Healthcare Network, presenting sponsor of the event.
