First, kids will receive enlistment papers and old-time continental-style cash. They will then learn how to load, fire, and carry a dummy musket just as soldiers did in George Washington's day. Park rangers in full continental uniform will train the young recruits.

Fancy Nancy and friends

Catch Fancy Nancy and friends Bree, Rhonda, Wanda, and Lionel this weekend at Walnut Street Theatre through April 19.

Nancy is excited to rehearse for the mermaid role in her school recital. She is confident she will get the part. However, she is disappointed when she is cast as a tree instead. Can she put some spunk into this boring role?

Trout Fishing Opening Day

Newlin Grist Mill stocks up its ponds with rainbow trout to kick off Delaware County's trout-fishing season. Newlin Grist Mill features three ponds that are regularly restocked and perfect for the little ones to try their hand at fishing.

If you don't want to keep the fish you've caught, donate them to feed injured birds. Newlin Grist Mill has a partnership with Newark's Tri-State Bird Rescue & Research, so any fish on the line can be donated to help the hungry winged ones. The ponds are open every Saturday and Sunday through Oct. 31.
