Opening events include hands-on activities, crafts, and live-animal shows with naturalists giving talks such as "Dandy Dinos and Bodacious Birds," about the most popular reptiles of all time - the long-gone dinosaurs - and their fine-feathered relatives still with us (11 a.m.); "Reptile Dinner Party," about what they eat and what eats them (1 p.m.); and "Fur, Feathers, and Scales," with live examples of each.

The stars of this show are 12 feet tall, weigh a minimum of 10,000 pounds, and have names such as Grave Digger, Wrecking Crew, Zombie, Avenger, and Stone Crusher.

Nobody did jittery and jumpy better than Don Knotts, and the underrated comic was at his best in the 1966 classic The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, screening at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute. Knotts plays a high-strung reporter trying to get to the bottom of scary doings in the local haunted house. Get a start on Halloween fun.
