On Nov. 6, the Salvation Army kicked off its weekend celebration of the fifth anniversary of the opening of the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center in North Philadelphia. About 75 people attended to honor and celebrate Raymond Welsh, former Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia Advisory Board chair, and his wife, Joanne. The Joanne and Raymond Welsh Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships to children that will give them and their families access to memberships at the center. The Salvation Army's Kroc Center of Philadelphia is a 130,000-square-foot community center, the largest on the East Coast, offering numerous programs, including aquatics, a national competitive swim team, programs such as Let's Play, a music program partnering with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and a horticultural zone for planting and gardening, as well as classes for seniors.
