On Dec. 5, the Free Library of Philadelphia hosted its year-end gala, themed "Through the Looking Glass: A Wonderland Ball" in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the publication of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Although there were a rabbit with a watch and a Queen and King of Hearts roaming the halls, the affair was black-tie with a red carpet, cocktail hour, and elegant dining provided by chef Jean-Marie Lacroix and Brûlée catering. Dancing and a live auction were also part of the event. As the storybook evening ended, Alice would have been proud - all proceeds raised by the gala will benefit the Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation, which supports many Free Library programs and services to advance literacy and guide learning.
