Ecila, 17, planning to help foster kids

At 17, Ecila has a clear vision of her professional future. "I want to help children like me who are in foster care," she says. "I want to be a social worker because I feel like I understand the system more than many social workers. I've been through it."

Recently, Ecila has developed an interest in photography and enjoys visiting museums, but her favorite way of expressing herself is writing poetry. "I write about my experiences in foster care," she says, "the happy times and the difficult times."

She also enjoys styling her hair and having her nails done, and was thrilled to have the opportunity recently to visit a cosmetology school. After a tour, she talked to some of the students about the latest techniques. She plans to use what she learned from them to create new styles for her friends.

Science is Ecila's favorite subject in 11th grade.

Ecila dreams of having a forever family, either two parents or a single parent, preferably with other children in the home.

Ecila and other children are available for adoption. For information, contact Anna Coleman at the National Adoption Center.
