The 2016 Philadelphia Auto Show kicked off Jan. 29 with the annual Black Tie Tailgate event.

More than 4,800 attendees took a break from the winter doldrums and came to motor around the Convention Center, where they enjoyed an evening of cocktails, food from Garces Catering, and a chance to dance to live entertainment by Jellyroll.

The crowd included car enthusiasts, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia executives, doctors from the Division of Neurology of Children's Hospital, executives from the Automobile Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia, and its Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation group.

Guests enjoyed a chance to preview the latest in vehicles and even had a chance to bid at a live auction for the Fiat that Pope Francis used during his visit to Philadelphia. Michael Chapman of Chapman Auto Dealers in Horsham won with a bid of $82,000, with half the proceeds going to Catholic Charities Appeal, Casa del Carmen, Mercy Hospice, and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's special-education schools. The event brought in $550,000, benefiting the Division of Neurology at Children's Hospital, adding to contributions from the Automobile Dealers Association of Greater Philadelphia and its Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation, which has donated $6.3 million to CHOP over the last 30 years.
