On March 19, the Drueding Center hosted its annual Stairway to Our Future event at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. The Drueding Center is one of Philadelphia's first transitional housing programs for homeless women and children. More than 265 attendees enjoyed a night of hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, dinner, music, dancing, and a silent auction, all in an atmosphere of art and beauty. The program included honoring Sister Ellen Marvel with the Sister Kathryn Etchells Lifetime Achievement Award, named after the Drueding Center's founder. The award is given to an individual who exemplifies hard work and dedication to the center's women and children through volunteerism and acts of generosity. A former graduate spoke about her life-changing experience as a result of the help from the staff and services offered by the Drueding Center. The evening raised $265,000 to support the services the Drueding Center provides for its families hoping to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness.
