Drama, parties, and anticipated performances galore, it's the music industry's time to shine. Here is what we loved from this week and can't wait to watch tonight when the show airs live on CBS at 8 p.m. EST from the Staples Center:
1. Rihanna and Chris Brown at the Grammys?
Rihanna has been the subject of widespread criticism and concern after she stepped out publicly with her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown on multiple occasions. On Saturday, Brown escaped injury after crashing his Porsche into a wall while being chased by paparazzi and his attendance at tonight's awards show has not yet been confirmed. Brown is up for best urban contemporary album.
2. Diplo winning it for Philly
Up for producer of the year, he's got parties with Snoop Dogg and Skrillex planned in the run up to music's biggest night. Next he'll release a new, much-anticipated Major Lazer album and the reggae album he produced for Snoop. Down the road he's got projects with Chris Brown, 2 Chainz, Tinie Tempah and Riff Raff among others.
3. Frank Ocean's crest to the top
Ocean is up for the major awards best new artist, album of the year and record of the year. A recent altercation in a parking lot with Chris Brown only focused more attention on Ocean. Ocean says Brown was the aggressor; both are competing against each other in one of the Grammy categories.
4. Justing Timberlake brings "SexyBack"
The Recording Academy announced last week that Justin Timberlake would perform tonight, his first musical appearance in support of his first new solo material in more than six years. Still a mystery is whether Timberlake will unveil a new song or perform his recently released "Suit and Tie," his retro-minded soul single that features Jay-Z. Timberlake will release his new album The 20/20 Experience on March 19.
5. The CBS memo about buttocks and breasts
Have things gotten so out of hand that CBS feels the need to email celebrities reminding them that clothing isn't optional? Yes, yes they have. It's almost surprising that they didn't specifically mention Jennifer Lopez by name.
