Ikea monkey headed to an animal sanctuary

A seven-month-old rhesus macaque monkey named Darwin was found wandering around the parking lot of a Toronto Ikea over the weekend. The monkey reportedly let himself out of his cage and then out of his owners' car to take a stroll around the parking lot. Ikea employees managed to corral the little guy—who donned a fitted winter coat—before Animal Services showed up. He's been taken into custody and his owners were fined $240 because rhesus macaque monkeys are prohibited under Toronto's bylaws. The folks at Animal Services are looking for a suitable home and suggest that Darwin will probably end up in an animal sactuary. [National Post]
