Jimmy Carter's down with the herb: supports marijuana legalization
During a televised panel discussion, former President Jimmy Carter said that he is in favor of legalizing marijuana. The Captain Planet Foundation (for reals) hosted the panel in Georgia on Friday—CNN aired it on Tuesday. CNN anchor Suzanne Malveaux asked Carter about the legalization of marijuana.
"I'm in favor of it. I think it's OK," Carter said. "I don't think it's going to happen in Georgia yet, but I think we can watch and see what happens in the state of Washington for instance around Seattle and let the American government and let the American people see does it cause a serious problem or not."
Carter went on to cite the decriminalization of drugs in Portugal as an example of how a change in policy might be a good thing. [Politico]
