The Philadelphia Orchestra will perform a free, hour-long concert Nov. 28 at the Kimmel Center led by its assistant conductor, Kensho Watanabe. The program includes the "Russian Dance" from Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, organist Peter Richard Conte in the "Finale" from Saint-Saëns' Symphony No. 3 in C minor ("Organ"), and excerpts from Guilmant's Symphony No. 1 for Organ and Orchestra. Violinist Hyun Jae Lim, an Albert M. Greenfield Student Competition winner, will play the first movement of the Korngold Violin Concerto in D Major.
Concertgoers are invited to bring new hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves to be donated to children in need. At 5 p.m. in the Kimmel lobby, audience members will be able to conduct a small ensemble of musicians from the orchestra, and one newbie conductor may be chosen to lead the entire ensemble for a short portion of the full-orchestra 6:30 p.m. concert in Verizon Hall.
