In May, Kevin Rankin, co-owner of the Wissinoming strip bar, was sentenced to three years in federal prison on gun and fraud convictions. The Daily News reported then that Rankin was liquidating his interest in Dangerous Curves, which had been raided in 2005 by federal agents seeking evidence linking Rankin and co-owner Bishop Krabsz to then-Councilman Rick Mariano, who was convicted of corruption charges in 2006.
Krabsz was convicted of similar charges and also was sentenced, in August 2007, to three years.
Meanwhile, the dancers from Club Risque Bristol raised $1,300 in a Save the Ta-Tas car-wash benefit Saturday for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Risque is also a regular supporter of Variety, the children's charity, buying a table each year at the Stu Bykofsky Candidates Comedy Night.
In other Variety news . . .
Patrick J. McLaughlin, of the Emerald Capital Group, in Rosemont, just sent Variety another $500 because he felt the first $500 he paid for a Jon Bon Jovi-signed Philadelphia Soul football wasn't enough for the charity. McLaughlin snagged the ball in an auction at the last comedy night.
Duran donates to officer's family
Q102 morning host Elvis Duran broadcasts from New York but was in town Friday visiting the station and advertisers. After he and sidekick Diego Ramos dined at Bookbinder's (125 Walnut), Duran accompanied Ramos to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 (Broad & Spring Garden) for a benefit for the family of Philadelphia Police Officer Isabel Nazario, killed by a teen car thief two weeks ago. Duran donated $1,000 to the event. FOP President John McNesby announced Duran's donation, prompting huge applause.
Radio vet laid off by telephone
Radio newsman Tommy MacDonald says he felt like Carrie Bradshaw from "Sex and the City" after she was dumped once by Post-It, when he was laid off Friday night, by telephone, by a Metro Networks manager. MacDonald, Rod Carson and Deborah Byrne were among six full-timers who were let go, along with eight part-timers, in a cost-cutting measure.
Out and about
Some partying in Old City Saturday night were surprised to see Donovan McNabb strolling down 2nd Street waving to fans and appearing to be feeling no pain, because they expected that he and fellow teammates would have been under curfew. Not so, says a team spokesman, because the Birds didn't fly off for Dallas until Sunday afternoon.
_ Flyers Jeff Carter and Riley Cote were among those who showed up at Friday's Phillies game before it was rained out.
The pair happily posed for pictures and signed autographs by the home-plate entrance.
_ After the rain-out, Chase Utley and wife Jen dined with another couple at Stephen Starr's new Parc on Rittenhouse Square, where Jen rolled her eyes after a few blondes approached the table to say hi to the Phils heartthrob.
_ Flyers Simon Gagne and Danny Briere, with wives Karine and Sylvie, hit Saloon (750 S. 7th) the other night for lobster and branzino, which they washed down with a bottle of red.
