Cyrus Shepherd-Oppenheim, a University of Pennsylvania student who lives in University City, was taken into custody shortly after midnight after Flight 186 landed. Police say witnesses identified Shepherd-Oppenheim, who goes by Zack, short for his middle name Zacariah, as the person who took their belongings during the six-hour flight.
He was released yesterday evening on his own recognizance and has a court hearing Feb. 4 in Criminal Justice Center Room 404. He has been charged with theft-unlawful taking, and theft-receiving stolen property.
"Here you have a nice young man who's a good student and a good kid who has never had a problem with the law before and if his name was Joe Blow, nobody would be writing about it," attorney William J. Brennan, representing Shepherd-Oppenheim, said yesterday. "He has been charged with a crime and we intend to vigorously defend him," said Brennan, of Center City's Brennan Law Offices.
Our e-mail to a spokeswoman for Cybill Shepherd, of "Taxi Driver", "Moonlighting" and "Cybill" fame, was not returned yesterday.
