Swift says mom is ill
Taylor Swift on Thursday shared grave family news: Her mother Andrea Swift has been diagnosed with cancer. Taylor did not specify the type of cancer or prognosis. "I'd like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private," the singer, 25, writes on Tumblr.
The diagnosis came as a result of Taylor's continued appeals that her doctor-phobic mom get a routine check up. "For Christmas . . . I asked my mom that one of her gifts to me be her going to the doctor," Swift says. "There were no red flags and she felt perfectly fine." Her mother, Swift writes, won't be at some of her concerts this year. "She's got an important battle to fight."
Kim 'n' Kanye go to Armenia
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West this week have begun a new chapter in their famewhorious career: Acting as goodwill ambassadors in foreign lands filled with foreign peoples.
The couple are in Kim's ancestral homeland of Armenia, no doubt to pay homage to the historical forces that gave rise to Kim's world-historical Being. Baby North West and Kim's sis Khloe tagged along.
"Armenia we are here!!!!! We are so grateful to be here & start this journey of a lifetime! Thank you to everyone who greeted us!" Kim writes on Instagram. "I can't wait to explore our country and have some yummy food!"
Armenian prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan personally met with Kimye. We imagine he adores them.
Kimye's visit coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Massacre. Ordered by the then-ruling Ottomans, the 1915 slaughter left 11/2 million dead. Kardashian, who, of course, has E! cameras following her, is scheduled to visit the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial, marking the genocide in the Armenian capital, Yerevan.
Cox rolls with the punches
British actor Charlie Cox's time on Boardwalk Empire helped him master the art of being simultaneously sweet and vicious onscreen. He puts it to good use in Marvel's Daredevil on Netflix. Cox admits there's "a sinister enjoyment" in the show's brutal fight scenes, which have his character Matt Murdock take some seriously horrific beat downs as the blind superhero Daredevil.
"Some of the fighting isn't very pretty - it's rolling around in the mud and getting cheap shots in here and there," Cox tells USA Today. "When [Daredevil] puts on the mask, he would probably never admit to it, but he's probably enjoying it more than he should."
CBS' Schieffer set to sign off
Bob Schieffer, 78, will retire this summer after 46 years at CBS News.
"It's been a great adventure," said Schieffer, who is currently in his 24th year as anchor of Face the Nation.
"You know, I'm one of the luckiest people in the world because as a little boy, as a young reporter, I always wanted to be a journalist, and I got to do that. And not many people get to do that, and I couldn't have asked for a better life or something that was more fun and more fulfilling."
Calling Schieffer a "reporter's reporter," CBS News president David Rhodes tells CNN the retirement is "entirely Bob's decision."
