POTUS' very first tweet

"Hello, Twitter! It's Barack," read a mysterious tweet sent Monday from the handle @POTUS. "Really! Six years in, they're finally giving me my own account."

It's true: The White House confirms that President Obama has joined Twitter.

Like most persons of discernment, POTUS didn't jump on the bandwagon when Twitter went online in '06.

He took his time.

Twitter Itself (Herself?) marked the occasion, tweeting, "Welcome, Mr. President!" next to an American flag graphic.

A fun time was had by all.

"It's about time, @POTUS! -mo," tweeted @FLOTUS (that'd be wife Michelle Obama).

Former President Bill Clinton tweeted: "One question: "Does that username stay with the office?"

LaBelle to open Dell season

Patti LaBelle will kick off the summer season at Philadelphia's Dell Music Center on July 9, the lead act in a schedule that's stronger and more consistent with old-school soul, Quiet Storm, and funk acts than it has been in some time.

LaBelle, fresh off a stint on Dancing With the Stars and a cameo on American Horror Story, brings that old "New Attitude" to the outdoor venue at 2400 Strawberry Mansion Dr. (off Ridge Avenue) on a bill that also includes trombonist Jeff Bradshaw & Friends and Pamela "The Saxtress" Williams.

There's an old-school quadruple bill on July 16 with Rose Royce, Heatwave, Bloodstone, and the Chi-Lites, and lots of other cool stuff throughout the summer. Toni Braxton and Babyface play on July 23, rugged soul man Anthony Hamilton sings on Aug. 6, and foundational funk-wizards Larry Graham and Bootsy Collins get down on Aug. 27.

Schmaltz beats apocalypse

Billed as the greatest film since the genre was invented, George Miller's post-Mel Gibson, postapocalyptic, post-feminist Mad Man redux, Mad Max: Fury Road, which stars Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron as nonsexualized brothers-in-arms, was roundly defeated at the box office this weekend by a girlie-girl movie!

Musical sequel Pitch Perfect 2, which marks the directorial debut of actor Elizabeth Banks, grossed $70.3 mil over its debut weekend, according to studio estimates, to take the top spot on the box office charts. Mad Max came in second, with a paltry $44.4 mil.

Superhero pap Avengers: Age of Ultron is at No. 3 with $38.8 mil, which brings its total haul to $372 mil in just three weeks.
