Saturday-Sunday

Clown and fury

In their adaptation Nearly Lear, Edith Tankus and Susanna Hamnett mix classic clowning with a story borrowed from "that guy William Shakespeare," and somehow lend a greater poignancy to the tale of a betrayed monarch wandering in the wilderness with a fool as his only companion. Hamnett stars in the one-woman tour de force at the Painted Bride Art Center, 230 Vine St. Times: Noon and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets: $30. Spice things up

Spring is here (we think) and what better way to celebrate its arrival (and warm up) than with the annual Fishtown Chili Cook-Off, featuring entries from the pros (including past champions Sketch Burger, Loco Pez, and Johnny Brenda's) and 15 intrepid amateur cooks, plus beer from the Philadelphia Brewing Co. and bread from Metropolitan Bakery.
