Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee receives honorary degree from UArts
Comic book legend Stan Lee is now a doctor.
The man who revolutionized comics and brought us Marvel-ous doctors such as Doctor Strange, Doctor Doom and Doctor Octopus was presented with an honorary doctorate of fine arts degree for his contribution to the arts and to the global creative economy during the inauguration ceremony for the University of the Arts' (UArts) president, David Yager.
It's Lee's first honorary degree . . . which is pretty disgraceful. Shame on you, American universities.
Dr. Lee received his ceremonial hooding via video and answered students' questions.
"Wow, I'm a doctor!" he exclaimed with delight.
And at 93, he's a doctor who's still practicing.
"It is truly a wonderful honor to receive this doctorate of fine arts degree. Thank you to all the good people at the University of the Arts. Excelsior!" Lee said.
"It was such an honor to bestow this honorary doctorate on a man who has made an indelible mark on our society," said UArts President Yager, of the man who co-created Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk and more. "Stan is a remarkable example for our young people of how artistic expression can flourish through a dogged pursuit of your passions and your vision, a commitment to excellence, and an understanding of the intersection of business and the arts."
