Actor Dennis Hopper, known for his intense and unconventional direction and roles in movies including Easy Rider, has died at 74, several news outlets reported Saturday.

The actor had been suffering from complications of prostate cancer.

MSNBC reported that Hopper had died at 8:15 a.m. In Venice, Calif. "surrounded by family and friends." MSNBC cited a family friend as the source of the report. The Associated Press confirmed the report.
