Nature's Most Amazing Events (8 p.m., DISC) - The BBC and Discovery Channel, which coproduced the stunning Planet Earth, team up again for this six-part series spotlighting Earth's natural diversity as reflected in dramatic seasonal events. "Arctic Summer," the first episode, looks at how the melting of sea ice transforms the Arctic into a region of eye-popping beauty.

American Beauty (8 p.m., TNT) - This 1999 comedy-drama won five Oscars. Kevin Spacey took home the best-actor trophy for his portrayal of a middle-aged man having the granddaddy of all midlife crises.
