The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia are among 35 hospitals nationwide designated as Ebola treatment centers, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said Tuesday.

The designations were made by state health officials in conjunction with local health officials and hospital administrators.

Rapid Ebola Preparedness teams from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have evaluated each of the hospitals to ensure that they are properly equipped and have the procedures in place to properly care for Ebola patients, the Health and Human Services department said. - Harold Brubaker
