Local breast cancer organizations

Here is a list of resources for breast cancer support and education in the Philadelphia area.

American Cancer Society

Resources for education, support and treatment about breast cancer as well as other types of cancer.

Breastcancer.org/Rock the Ribbon

Ardmore based Breastcancer.org organizes fundraisers and events in the community to benefit cancer research and survivor support. This year its largest event, Rock the Ribbon, will be at Lincoln Financial Field in the SCA Club Lounge and will host '70s soul musicians, The Stylistics Review (local to Philadelphia) and The Trammps.

Kelly Rooney Foundation

The Kelly Rooney Foundation, a local non-profit in Wayne, aims to "empower [women] with knowledge" by funding cancer research, education programs, and preventative care. The Kelly Rooney Foundation donates a $10,000 scholarship to a female athlete who lost a mother to breast cancer and works largely with Abramson Cancer Center at Penn.

Linda Creed Foundation

The Linda Creed Foundation was founded in Philadelphia in honor of Linda Creed Epstein. The foundation focuses on education for women and their families about detection, treatment and survival. The organization is also concerned with access to detection and treatment resources, information on breast health, financial assistance to women receiving treatment, advocacy agendas and legislation and seeking government funding for breast cancer treatment.

Living Beyond Breast Cancer

LBBC is a local non-profit organization in Haverford, P.a. It connects women with easy to understand information about the disease and health professionals. Information includes treatment, nutrition plans and emotional support.

Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition

Formed by cancer survivors, PBCC organizes events, programs and campaigns to support families who have lost women to breast cancer and those at risk. With state funding PBCC organizes educational programming, advocacy through legislation and breast cancer research grants.

Praise is the Cure

PITC is a movement to improve health of current and future generations of African American women and men. Their mission is to motivate, educate and encourage African Americans to get breast cancer screenings and treatment. The organization promotes disease intervention, prevention and awareness. PITC aims to help African American women and their families and the underserved and underinsured. The organization works with George E. Thorne Development Center.

Sharsheret

Sharsheret helps women in the Jewish community who are diagnosed with breast cancer by connecting them with survivors and peers in their community. The organization is based in New Jersey and offers services across the country.

Susan G. Komen, 31 Days of Impact

The web series "31 Days of Impact" profiles survivors and caregivers across the country

Young Survivor Coalition

YSC specially focused raising awareness and supporting young women with breast cancer. The YSC branch in Philadelphia was founded by two women in Bucks County. YSC is hosting "In Living Pink" on October 19 at Mad River in Manayunk. Tickets are a set price and include 2 hour open bar, lite fare and a DJ. The event also will have raffle prizes, silent auction gifts and awards to women in the area.
