Police are seeking suspects in the beating and rape of a 40-year-old woman who was found naked and battered on an East Germantown street early Wednesday.

The woman, who suffered severe head and facial injuries, hasn't been able to talk with detectives because of her wounds.

She was attacked at 3 a.m. on Chelten Avenue near Anderson Street near a city recreation center. Church and community leaders plan an anti-crime rally at the intersection at 6 p.m. Monday.

It was at least the second rape reported in two days in the city.

On Tuesday, a 24-year-old woman reported that an unknown man forced her into his car at knifepoint at Kensington and Allegheny avenues in Kensington and raped her.

The offender in that case is described as an African-American male in his 30s, 5 foot 9, 180 pounds, wearing a red T-shirt and black pants and driving a red four-door vehicle with a tan interior.

Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call Special Victims Unit detectives at 215-685-3251. *
