Vallas' new job?

The New Orleans School District has scheduled a news conference for 11 this morning, where a major announcement will be made.

The New Orleans School District has scheduled a news conference for 11 this morning, where a major announcement will be made.

That announcement could involve naming Philadelphia schools chief Paul Vallas the new superintendent of that city's Recovery School District.

Vallas has been in New Orleans since Monday serving as an education consultant. In April, he announced he would leave the Philadelphia district at the end of this school year. He was hired in July 2002.

Here in Philadelphia, the School Reform Commission is close to naming an interim schools chief and could make an announcement as soon as today. Thomas Brady, the district's chief operating officer, is under serious consideration for the job, district sources said. *
