Police said a 29-year-old man was stabbed in the face, back and chest after an argument inside a Starbucks on Broad Street near Jackson in South Philadelphia shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday.

The victim was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he remained in critical condition last night.

Yesterday morning police took a man into custody in connection with the stabbing after a witness identified him to the police.

He was still being questioned by police and as of last night no charges had been filed.

Two hours before the coffee-shop stabbing, a 19-year-old man was shot and killed at 54th Street and Greenway Avenue in Kingsessing.

Police said Basir Gray, 19, had been shot once in the back while driving his car on 54th street near Greenway Avenue shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday.

Gray was rushed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead minutes later. Police believe that after Gray was shot, he tried to get out of his car and run, police said.

Homicide detectives have no witnesses and were still trying last night to find the motive for Gray's slaying. *
