Woman killed in crash

on Lincoln Drive

A 52-year-old woman was killed in a four-car pileup on Lincoln Drive Monday afternoon.

The unidentified woman was driving southbound on Lincoln Drive near Gypsy Lane when her car went into the northbound lanes, striking three other vehicles, police said.

She was pronounced dead at Albert Einstein Medical Center at about 3:30 p.m. Four other people who were in the other three cars were treated at the center and released.

Woman's body is found

behind N. Phila. house

Police found the body of an unidentified woman behind a house on Sydenham Street near Mole in North Philadelphia shortly after 2 p.m. yesterday.

Cops said the woman, who appeared to be between 30 and 40 years old, had signs of multiple trauma to her body and may have been dead for up to 12 hours.

$10M education challenge

from Lenfest Foundation

The Lenfest Foundation has awarded a $10 million challenge grant to Teach America, a group that recruits teachers for distressed school districts in Philadelphia and Camden.

The group must recruit at least 300 college graduates each year to receive $1 million annually. The challenge will last for 10 years.

Under the program, the teachers must commit to teach for two years in districts serving low-income families.

Kayaker is killed

in Little Egg Harbor

A man in a kayak died while plying the waters of Little Egg Harbor, N.J., Monday. The Coast Guard identified the man as Robert Guadiosi, 22.

A Coast Guard helicopter found him in the water near Rose Point Marsh. He was hoisted into the helicopter and taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he was pronounced dead.

Jersey farmers stand to gain

with shortage of cranberries

Farmers who harvest cranberries in the South Jersey Pinelands are being paid a premium for their product since growers in Massachusetts and Wisconsin, the top two states in cranberry production, have not been able to match last year's record.

That has created a shortage.
