Shootings kill 2, injure 3 others

_ At 4:34 p.m., Alvin Ortiz, 22, of Emerald Street near Ontario in Kensington, was found lying in the front doorway of a house at A Street near Westmoreland with a gunshot to the back of his neck. He was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. yesterday.

Police arrested David Morales, 20, of Sterner Street near 9th, and charged him with murder and related offenses in connection with Ortiz's death, Homicide Sgt. Bob Wilkins said. The shooting stemmed from an argument between the two men, Wilkins said.

_ At 11:40 p.m. Nathanial Nash, 19, of 17th Street near Cumberland, was found on Dover Street near Oxford in Brewerytown with multiple gunshot wounds to his left leg and body. He was transported to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:09 a.m. yesterday.

Wilkins said that police knew of no motives for the shooting and that no one has been arrested.

The three men who were injured were shot yesterday.

_ At 4:13 a.m. two men claim they were shot as they drove out of the parking lot of Brunswick Adams Bowling Lanes, on Foulkrod Street near Adams Avenue, Lt. Rick Sysol of Northeast Detectives said.

The owner and operator of the vehicle drove himself and his passenger to Temple University Hospital. The driver, 22, suffered one gunshot wound to the back and was in stable condition last night. The passenger, 20, was shot five times to his upper torso and was in critical condition, Sysol said.

Both men told police they had no idea why anyone would shoot at them, Sysol said. They said they fled the scene to avoid additional danger, according to Sysol.

Police expected to interview the men for additional details after they came out of surgery and sedation yesterday. There were no known suspects, motives or arrests in the case last night, Sysol said.

_ At 11:46 a.m., a 32-year-old man was shot once in the lower abdomen on Bailey Street near Oxford. He was taken to Temple Hospital and listed in guarded condition. *
