A 15-year-old boy is in police custody after the SUV he was driving struck and killed a 73-year-old man in Juniata Park Wednesday night.
Police said that the boy fled the scene, then, accompanied by his parents, turned himself in to police at the 24th District, Whitaker Avenue near Luzerne Street, yesterday afternoon. He has no driver's license.
The victim, William Wrigley, of Frankford Avenue near Sedgely, died of his injuries after being struck on M Street near Erie Avenue, police said.
About 9:30 p.m., Wrigley was crossing the intersection when the underage driver struck him, turned eastbound and continued down Luzerne Street, police said.
Wrigley was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Police did not identify him because he's a minor. His parents own the SUV, police said.
