DN WRITERS WIN MORE AWARDS

staff writers Dafney Tales and Mark Kram won "Salute to Excellence Awards" over the weekend at the annual convention of the National Association of Black Journalists in Tampa, Fla.

Tales won in the single-story category for newspapers of 150,000 circulation and under for her story, "Endless Torture," about the torture-murder of a Mantua man, which ran on March 12, 2008.

Sportswriter Kram won in the newspaper-sports category for his story, "A Place Beyond Words," which ran on Dec. 17, describing how former Eagles player Siran Stacy lost his wife and four of his five children to a drunken driver on an Alabama highway in 2007.
