Man shot in Olney

A 22-year-old man was shot about 8 last night on Ontario Street near Reach. He was taken to Temple University Hospital, and was reported in good condition. His identity was not disclosed. Police had made no immediate arrests.

2 teens arrested in S. Phila.

Two teenage boys, under surveillance in an attempted motorcycle theft, were arrested early Saturday in South Philadelphia after the Chevy Suburban they were in nearly hit a cop and a nearby police car, police said.

The officer, who was nearly run down, fired at the fleeing Chevy, said Lt. Frank Vanore. No one was hurt.

Vanore said that at 4:15 a.m., two 1st District officers were watching young men inside and outside the Chevy near a motorcycle on Wilder Street near 22nd. An officer got out of the patrol car to talk to one of the teens and the Chevy took off, nearly hitting the police car, then the officer. Police arrested two teens on Mifflin Street near 24th. They were charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and related offenses.

Meeting on school violence

A meeting today involving the Human Relations Commission, Asian-American community groups and school officials will seek solutions to racial violence in city schools. The discussion will include the recent attacks on Asian immigrant students at South Philadelphia High School. The meeting is not open to the public.

Man wounded in robbery

A 46-year-old man remains in critical but stable condition at Aria Health's Frankford campus after he was shot multiple times during a robbery of Sam's Pizza, on Rutland Street near Sanger, in Oxford Circle, shortly after midnight Saturday.

Police said that the man threw a trash-can lid at a robber who had burst into the shop and demanded money. The robber, in turn, shot the victim. The robber fled the scene empty-handed.
