Handyman finds body of slain Lower Moreland woman

Mary Pellegrino's handyman went to her home Sunday expecting to do his usual tasks but instead found her lifeless body, authorities said yesterday.

Mary Pellegrino's handyman went to her home Sunday expecting to do his usual tasks but instead found her lifeless body, authorities said yesterday.

Pellegrino, 86, had lived alone at her home on Pine Road near Red Lion in Lower Moreland Township since her husband's death in 2005, according to online records.

The handyman, who authorities said regularly did work around Pellegrino's house on Sundays, arrived at her residence about 1 p.m. and contacted police after finding her body.

Initial investigations indicated Pellegrino did not die of natural causes and a subsequent examination of her body by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office revealed she died from blunt force trauma to the head, police said.

Authorities believe Pellegrino may have been dead for several days before she was found. She was last seen alive on Dec. 30

Investigators are urging anyone who knew Pellegrino, anyone who worked for her in the past or anyone who may have seen anything suspicious around her area to contact the Lower Moreland Township Police at 215-947-3132 or the Montgomery County Detective Bureau at 610-278-3368.
