1 killed, 2 wounded in gunfight in Upper Darby on Father's Day

A drug dealer who began working from home after being placed on house arrest was shot Sunday afternoon, along with two men who came to his Upper Darby home to rob him, police said.

A drug dealer who began working from home after being placed on house arrest was shot Sunday afternoon, along with two men who came to his Upper Darby home to rob him, police said.

One of the alleged robbers died as a result of the Father's Day gunfight that occurred on a crowded street, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

About 3 p.m., Christopher Bogan, of Sunshine Road near West Chester Pike, who is wearing an ankle monitor for a drug conviction, walked just outside his door to meet Kanard Jones, 25, and Latif Morris, 25, police said.

"Bogan's allegedly selling drugs out of his house because he can't go far with that monitor," Chitwood said.

Jones and Morris allegedly pulled a gun on Bogan, who is in his 20s, and robbed him of $120. But across the street was a man sitting in Bogan's Cadillac who emerged and " 'started cuttin' wit' his ratchet,' " Chitwood said, quoting Morris.

The slang means that the man in the car began shooting his gun, Chitwood said.

In the gunfight that ensued, at least 12 shots were fired while 70 to 80 people were on the street, police said.

Bogan was struck in his left side and was treated at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and released.

Jones and Morris ran to a nearby getaway car, police said. The men called police in Philadelphia while at 62nd and Arch streets and told them they'd been robbed, Chitwood said.

Both were also taken to HUP. Jones died of multiple wounds to his back and Morris was treated for a leg wound and was released.

Morris was charged with robbery and related offenses. Police are still deciding whether to charge Bogan with a crime.

They searched his house hours after the incident and found only scales, Chitwood said.

Police are also looking for Bogan's friend who opened fire on Jones and Morris, and for the driver of the getaway car used by Jones and Morris.
