Feds to appeal Fumo sentence

Federal prosecutors asked the U.S. Court of Appeals yesterday for a one-week delay until July 8 to file a brief appealing former state Sen. Vince Fumo's 55-month prison sentence.

Prosecutors received permission from the solicitor general last week to seek the appeal.

Fumo was convicted of 137 federal corruption counts in March 2009 and prosecutors had recommended a sentence of 15 years behind bars at Fumo's sentencing last July.

Fumo is incarcerated at a federal prison in Kentucky and is scheduled to be released on Aug. 26, 2013.
