Teen calls to report crackhead mom, cops say

A 13-year-old boy who was forced to witness the ugly depths of his mother's crack binge called the cops on her last week, police said.
And the only thing the teen got for watching out for his mother's safety - and his own - was to be smacked around and verbally abused by her, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.
Brenda Casey, 45, was allegedly at her house on Eldon Road with her 13-year-old son around 10:30 p.m. Thursday when the boy became so concerned that she was smoking some type of drug that he called police.
She smacked him around for involving the cops and when police arrived on scene, she denied using or possessing any drugs, despite being visibly intoxicated, Chitwood said.
In response, her 13-year-old son reached his arm under the sofa cushion and pulled out a bag with a hard, white substance, later determined to be crack cocaine, according to police.
Casey resisted arrest and had to be carried out of the house, Chitwood said. As she was being carried out, she not only yelled profanities at the police officers, but at her own son, he said.
She was subsequently charged with possession of drugs, resisting arrest and harassment. Children and Youth Services was called and her son was placed with an aunt, police said.
The situation is a sad commentary on the effects of drug addiction, Chitwood said.
"I wonder how many other children in our society have to witness this stuff," he said. "This kid just had the guts to stand up and call the police on his mom."
