A sailor who went AWOL last month with his girlfriend after they allegedly committed a couple of South Jersey thefts were arrested early Wednesday in Cleveland, authorities said.

Shortly before 1 a.m., a Cleveland police officer found Teague Caton and Jacqueline Negra sleeping in Caton's truck just outside the city, said Sgt. Sammy Morris, of the Cleveland Police Department. They were arrested without incident.

Caton, 20, of Medford, and Negra, 23, of Cherry Hill, had been on the run since a Nov. 10 incident in Edgewater Park, N.J., in which an officer who was trying to arrest Caton was hanging from the window of Caton's truck as they fled, police said.

The officer, who wasn't seriously hurt, was trying to arrest Caton for outstanding warrants in his hometown.

His family had reported him missing two days earlier, after he failed to return to his naval base in Norfolk, Va.

In the days after the Edgewater Park incident, South Jersey police believe that the couple burglarized a home in Voorhees and tried to sell stolen jewels at a gold shop in Cherry Hill.

They are awaiting extradition to New Jersey, where they will face several charges, authorities said.
